APJ Abdul Kalam Ignited Mind Children Creativity Awards select 20 innovative ideas for the awards
The APJ Abdul Kalam Ignited Mind Children Creativity and Innovation Awards 2021 received around 4,200 innovative ideas from children from 24 Indian states via online and offline media. A jury of eminent experts evaluated the shortlisted ideas and selected 20 innovative ideas for awards and appreciation. Eight students were selected for an award and 12 for a certificate of appreciation, according to a statement.
In order to promote creativity and originality in children, students up to grade 12 participated by submitting their ideas, innovations with or without proof of concept or prototypes.
Professor Anil Gupta, Founder, Honey Bee Network, SRISTI, GIAN and NIF recalled the support, advice and encouragement received from the late late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam for all activities related to innovation. He said that the creative and inclusive spirit of children will help India soon become self-reliant and also a developed country. Many of these innovative ideas address not only local issues, but also national and, in some cases, global issues. Most of the students showed a deep empathy for the unmet needs of society.
The jury was particularly impressed with the identification of the issues by the children who in some cases even the adults missed. The Honey Bee Network appreciates the efforts of everyone who entered the contest, although the prize and appreciation only covered a few. The network site will share any relevant ideas shortly after asking for children’s consent.
Some of the very relevant ideas could not be recognized because someone had already developed them even though many of them were not available in the market. We have made an exception in some cases where the societal need is very high and the recognition of some of these ideas may attract the attention of designers and decision makers. Help will be provided for students to connect them with mentors and manufacturers in deserving cases, he said.
The prize is awarded to commemorate the legacy of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Bharat Ratna and former President of India.
