Florida Bee Farm provides a hands-on experience and it’s so sweet

Get hands-on experience dealing with the most special little bugs at one Florida beekeeping farm. Bees everywhere have just been declared the most important living being on Earth, and rightly so. For what appears to be the last decade, we’ve heard cries of “save the bees” and “support local honey”.

Sadly, they have also joined the endangered species list, with around 90% of the population having gone extinct in recent years. The culprit seems to be pesticides, deforestation and the lack of flowers.

If there was a time to buy organic food and plant in your community garden, now is the time.

Located in Clearwater, Florida Bee Farm is an eco-friendly mini-farm that runs entirely on solar energy. They also grow tons of plants and produce using organic growing methods and naturally made compost.

Their bees are also organically grown, as they are not treated with chemicals or fed sugar water. The all-natural honey they produce is available raw in their store and online, and when you book a beehive tour, you can try some free honey!

They even have a ‘self-serve honey box’ at Bee Farmgate, so you can pick up one of their one-pound containers even after hours and either leave the $ 12 in an envelope or send it through PayPal. .

Beehive tours are available on certain days and are highly weather dependent.

A protective jacket and gloves are provided for guests, but it is recommended that you wear long pants, closed-toe shows, and a baseball cap-type hat to prevent the veil from falling over your face.

After a brief introduction a smoker will be turned on which is used to mask bee alarm pheromones and help keep them calm. Inside the apiary, a beehive will be open and guests can even hold a frame and examine the bees up close.

You will be able to see the different types of bees and maybe even see baby bees emerging from a cell in the aisle. If you’re lucky, you might even see the Queen!

You can experience even more breathtaking Florida nature in this hidden wildflower field and in these best spots for stargazing.
