Local Bee Farm produces artisanal Maui honey for local residents
Honolulu (KHON2) – Family-owned beekeeping farm, Maui Bees harvests Maui’s award-winning artisanal honey produced by local worker bees.
For the past ten years, Maui Bees owners Mark and Leah Damon have harvested fresh produce, organic pastured eggs, and local honey, all available at their stand at Kula Farm.
“45 years ago, I stumbled across a bee book in the public library and became addicted to it. Since then, I have kept bees in many parts of the continent and for 20 years here on Maui. My wife, Leah Damon, has been around bees all her life. She was raised around bees because her father was a beekeeper, ”says Mark Damon, co-founder of Maui Bees.
Family-operated on Valley Island, Maui Bees produces quality produce that can be found at local food establishments or sold at their Kula farm.
Damon says, “We are a diverse 4-acre farm where we produce fruits and vegetables, pastured eggs, honey, and many of the farm’s value-added products such as sauerkraut, hot sauce Jun (a similar drink with kombucha), pickles, jams and dessert. pastries and a range of baked goods from our commercial kitchen, including focaccia and artisan sourdough breads. We also offer a prepackaged hot lunch Wednesday through Saturday 9am to 2pm.
Working with local chef Larry Duran, Maui Bees offers hot breakfasts available on their farm, a menu that features fresh, organic produce that has been harvested at Maui Bees.
“Chef Larry Durran is our amazing resident chef who came to us from Grand Wailea. He creates a new menu each week that showcases our farm-fresh produce and locally sourced organic ingredients. There are 4 items that change weekly and range from a creative taco to a bowl of quinoa with veggies or fresh soups or salads, ”says Damon.
Residents and visitors to Hawaii are encouraged to visit the Maui Bees Farm, an operation Damon thinks people of the world should understand.
Damon says, “We have a free bee museum where visitors can see live viewing hives and learn about bees. You can walk around the farm and see the production gardens and animals. We have outdoor picnic tables for people to sit and enjoy their food and drinks or just sit and chat cafe style. We also offer an educational venue and tours for children and adults that showcase bees and our regenerative farming techniques and we have an educational segment on agricultural solutions to our climate crisis.
Maui Bees is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
